Sonya: One of my favorite verses when I think about adoption is 1 John 4:19: “We love because He first loved us.” It’s really pretty simple. Jesus died for us so that we may be adopted into God’s family and it’s such a clear picture of the love He desires from us. Children are such a gift from God and I find it a privilege to get to parent one day, no matter how I get there. Yes, our story started with the struggle of infertility but God quickly made it clear that His best plan for us was to grow our family through adoption. People ask us all the time if we still would have adopted had we not gone through infertility. Honestly, I don’t know, but I don’t think that’s what matters. What matters is God opens and shuts doors all the time. It’s our job to follow where He leads us and we believe adoption is where God is leading us. This past year has already taught me so much about love, and more importantly God’s love for me, that I wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for adoption. Our excitement has just continued to grow while we have waited to get started on this journey. We are so excited!
The beautiful thing about being with someone who knows Christ’s love is that we get to experience forgiveness and redemption and get a taste or glimpse of what Christ’s love is. I can’t wait to give the same kind of love to our children.
